Make the Most Out of Your Springtime Photoshoot With These Tips!

It's finally here! As the last cold days of winter ebb away, signs of Spring are slowly growing more and more apparent. Known for its dewy mornings and warm afternoons, Springtime is one of the most popular times of the year for photography.

Understandably, people enjoy having their pictures taken in the warmer weather without it being so hot that they're sweating through their clothing. In addition, there's something about the gentle warmness right after a harsh winter that makes Spring all the more refreshing and energizing.

Although Springtime is one of the prettiest times for a photoshoot, the weather this time of year is notorious for being unpredictable. Especially in the Midwest, where I'm located, the forecast can be for an uncomplicated sunny day but turn out to be rainy with a chance of tornados.

I've done the research, so you don't have to! Check out my top photography tips and tidbits to get the most out of your Spring photoshoot.

Prepare for Rain

While we hope and pray for sunny days and clear skies for our photoshoots, it's almost impossible to accurately predict the weather in Spring. Since a drizzle or a downpour is always a possibility, it's best that you come prepared for the rain!

Actually, rain gear can add quite a bit of fun dimension to your photoshoot! Pack yourself and anyone else in the photos, rain boots, a cute raincoat, and an umbrella. If they're not needed, that's okay! At least you'll have them prepared and present if the clouds decide it's time for a downpour.

Hydration is Key

Avoid the common Spring photoshoot mistake of forgetting to pack a bottle of water. Seriously, having something to drink while you're taking pictures will make a world of difference in the outcome of your pictures.

Think about it. Posing for photos is often more physical than we anticipate, and it is easy to become thirsty, hot, and dehydrated. Especially for outdoor photoshoots, walking or hiking to the ideal location can make it easy to work up a thirst.

On top of that, there's no quicker mood killer than being forced to smile when you are dying of thirst. So, make sure to add "water" to your checklist of times to pack for your Springtime photoshoot to ensure you feel as cool as you would like your photos to turn out.

Let Your Glow Shine Through

Now that the weather is becoming warmer, you may have noticed your skin becoming more glowy and less dull and parched! As you know, the cool winter temperatures are known for sucking any hydration from our skin, and it is the humid Spring air that brings life back to our complexions.

While preparing for a photoshoot, individuals often make the mistake of overusing makeup to correct imperfections in their skin. This sometimes leads to your face appearing cakey or even overly matted in the final images.

For this season, I want to challenge you to let your inner glow shine through in your Spring pictures. Now, this doesn't mean you can't wear any makeup. Rather, try not to pile on layers of foundation, corrector, and counselor until there's no dimension left on your face.

That natural inner glow is what makes you beautifully and individually you. Give it a try. Oftentimes, people are shocked by the positive results of their images when they take a "less is more" approach to photography makeup.

Versatile Outfits Are Best

Planning your Spring photoshoot outfit to be versatile is one of the best things you can do for a positive outcome! Versatile outfits not only create a multitude of photograph opportunities but also allow you to remove some layers if needed.

Whether the weather decides to shine or rain, you will be able to remove or add on layers as needed. Sticking to uncomplicated and classy basics is a great approach to take when styling clothing for a Spring photoshoot.

For example, women and girls can choose to wear a seasonal dress layered under a light wash denim jacket and paired with a cute pair of ankle boots. Likewise, men and boys can choose to wear jeans or even dress shorts with a polo or even a button-up shirt that can easily be rolled up to the elbow.
